Happy Friday Sparks families! We are celebrating Latinx Hispanic Heritage month by highlighting a few of our faculty so for this week we would like to introduce Sandra Lewis Allen, our wonderful Director of Operations. She will share with us a bit of her heritage. Without further ado, we present to you Ms. Lewis Allen!

Sandra's message: I arrived in Houston, TX on January 6, 1983, during the cold month of January. As a 10-year-old I was both excited and overwhelmed by this new experience. What would this experience be like? Would I learn the language quickly? How will my first day in school be like? As these and many more thoughts raced through my mind, I remembered what my teacher said before I left my beautiful Island of Puerto Rico. She stated, “Remember that God, Family and Education will guide you and protect you.” I welcomed this new experience with the inspiration that I would grow up and become a teacher. I knew that it was only through education that individuals such as:

  • José Feliciano known to the world as the “greatest living guitarist”,
  • Dr. Beauchamp Pedro the first Puerto Rican specialist certified by the American Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Board to deliver the first triplets born by in-vitro fertilization in the United States, Dávila Virgilio considered by many to be one of Puerto Rico’s greatest representatives of the modern literary era
  • Sonia Sotomayor the third woman, first woman of color, the first Hispanic, and first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court

All accomplished what they accomplished through the help of God, Family and Education. With this in mind, I strive to ensure that every interaction I have with students, families, teachers and administrators guides them towards their dreams and towards embracing their experiences.
